The Final Cut
The latest release of Final Cut (Final Cut Pro X) has been a point of controversy amongst not only the film and television community but the general public as well. Where previous versions of this reputable program have been utilised to create high profile films such as The Social Network, Napoleon Dynamite and 300, this latest version is cause of great debate. Is it revolutionary or irrelevant? To answer these questions and many more Gold Coast Indie Film and Television Network (GCIFTN) founder Caroline Russo, with the assistance of local film maker Steven Caldwell, has pulled together a panel of local editing experts including Lincoln Williams (Flipper, Beastmaster and Street Fighter), Duy Huynh (Beyondegde), Matt Ferguson and Aaron Nichol (Net Byte) and special guest, Chairman of The Board of The Arts Centre Gold Coast, Mr Kerry Watson, for an eye opening GCIFTN event, on Wednesday 28 September at The Arts Centre Gold Coast.
With Final Cut Pro X, Apple have release editing software completely different to the previous instalments. Although some feel this technology exceeds the capabilities of the last, critics have labelled it iMovie Pro. The debate continues to pick up momentum with high-profile celebrities including Conan O’Brien weighing in on the debate (check out the You-tube clip below).
This GCIFTN event will discuss topics including post-production workflow, the target audience and industry alternatives and finish with an audience Q&A with these industry elite.
Lincoln Williams His career began on films such as Streetfighter, Pitch Black, and a host of TV Series, Flipper, Medivac, The Lost World, Beastmaster, Survivor Germany and Cybergirl. In 1996 Lincoln launched his own Production Company editing and directing his own projects. Now as Creative Director at Fotomedia, he provides over 19 years of film and TV experience to the company.
Duy Huynh - is the Executive Producer & Creative Director of Beyondedge. Beyondedge is a full service interactive firm & production studio specialising in online, on-demand eLearning and creative communication. Beyondedge have a strong strategic focus and a highly experienced team of creatives & techies from film & TV and IT/Web who love to produce engaging, functional and inspiring work.
Matt Ferguson - An independent editor who has cut and colour graded low budget feature film using Final Cut Pro Studio Package, he also works on Corporate projects and is looking towards becoming representative for Turbo Productions.
Aaron Nichol – Business Manager of Net Byte, is the acting Business Manager of Next Byte business retail on the Gold Coast, who began doing freelance graphic design and video production (using Final Cut Pro) Aaron is very much in the field of advise on the subject of editing programs and what he sells each day and is up to date with the Apple brand and all other brands as well.
Brenda - owns and operates Meat Pie Music Publishing, which represents a small but quality team of writers and their songs. Brenda-Lee Heathcote-Shelly is now focusing on applying her experience with the music industry to working as a music supervisor for film and television.
Attendees will also be treated to a special key note address for Chairman of the Board of The Arts Centre Gold Coast – Kerry Watson, on the cultural aspect of the Gold Coast.
